Mtre Richter has practiced in the area of civil, corporate and commercial litigation since 1996. As a member of the Bars of Quebec and Ontario, he has pleaded before the trial and appeal courts of Quebec, before the Federal Court of Canada, the Superior Court of Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as various administrative and arbitral tribunals. His practice includes class actions, professional liability and employment law, and he has developed a particular expertise in international disputes.

Recent cases include the following :

• Obtained a provisional injunction and safeguard order on behalf of a securities broker against a departed advisor, in Valeurs mobilières Desjardins inc. v. Lambert, 2009 QCCS 4278, J.E. 2009-1907;

• Successfully invoked state immunity to dismiss the claim against our client, in New Jersey (Department of the Treasury of the State of) v. Trudel & Johnston, 2009 QCCA 86, [2009] R.J.Q. 46

• Defeated the arguments of bondholders contesting the approval of one of the largest proposed leveraged buy-outs in history, on the team representing the Purchaser from first instance to the Supreme Court of Canada in BCE Inc. v. 1976 Debentureholders, 2008 SCC 69, [2008] 3 S.C.R. 560

• Successfully contested authorization of a product liability class action in the automobile industry and maintained that result in appeal, in Del Guidice v. Honda Canada Inc., 2007 QCCA 922, [2007] R.J.Q. 1496

• Successfully appealed the dismissal of a declinatory motion contesting the jurisdiction of the Quebec courts, in Shamji v. Tajdin, 2006 QCCA 314, J.E. 2006-625

• Argued in favour of the application of the implied undertaking of confidentiality to discovery proceedings in Quebec, which argument was successful at the Supreme Court of Canada, in Lac d’Amiante du Québec, ltée v. 2858-0702 Québec inc., 2001 SCC 51, [2001] 2 S.C.R. 743
